Title: Geologic assessment of piedmont and playa flood hazards in the Ivanpah Valley area, Clark County, Nevada

Author: P. Kyle House
Year: 2007
Series: Map 158
Version: supersedes Open-File Report 06-9
Format: 37.5 x 40 inches, color
Scale: 1:50,000

This map shows the distribution of flood hazards on piedmont (alluvial fan) and playa surfaces in the Ivanpah Valley area from the basis of geologic and geomorphic characteristics. Flood hazard classes depicted on the map are derived from composite characteristics of a more detailed array of alluvial fan, playa, and eolian deposits of widely varying ages in the mapped area (Map 156). The map area spans the entirety of three internally drained basins south of Las Vegas: Roach Lake, Jean Lake, and Hidden Lake. The data are presented with the intention of informing potential urban development and related flood hazard mitigation efforts in the area; they are not presented as representative of formal, regulatory flood hazard zones.
