Scale: 1:24,000

A 1:24,000-scale, color preliminary geologic map of the West Gate 7.5-minute quadrangle in Churchill County, Nevada with descriptions of 49 geologic units. Accompanying text includes full unit descriptions and references. Rocks exposed in the quadrangle include highly deformed and variably metamorphosed Triassic and Jurassic sedimentary rocks, thick sections of 29 to 25 Ma ash-flow tuffs that accumulated in one or more large calderas, and middle Miocene sedimentary rocks that record the beginning of regional extension. The map also shows the complex faults and other structures that resulted from middle Miocene to present extension, including long stretches of fault scarps generated by the 1954 Fairview Peak and Dixie Valley earthquakes. This map was prepared as part of the STATEMAP component of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey.
