This 12-month calendar (January through December 2017) is full of beautiful photos highlighting Nevada’s scenic wonders and features a different geologic topic each month: Desatoya Mountains in central Nevada, Sand Mountain (an enormous sand dune), McDermitt Caldera (an ancient volcano near the Oregon border), The Sump (amazing rock formations in Esmeralda County), Santa Rosa Range in northern Nevada, Northern Nevada Orogenies (mountain building events), Mount Rose Glaciation, Basin and Range National Monument in eastern Nevada, Virginia Mountains near Pyramid Lake, Old Soil Horizons across the state, Pequop Mountains in northeastern Nevada, and Little Finland in southern Nevada. The calendar also includes interesting facts about Nevada and the geology of the state.
Correction for November main photo caption: The caption should read “Middle Ordovician (~460 Ma) Eureka Quartzite, Pequop Mountains, Elko County (above).”
