The following files are included in the GIS zip folder: Coverage, Dbase, Metadata, and OFR_98_9d. This database contains a listing of the active mines in Nevada. The commodities of these mines include precious metals, base metals, industrial minerals, sand and gravel, and gemstones. The main source of this information is from "Directory of Nevada Mine Operations, January - December 1995" compiled by the mine inspectors at Nevada Mine Safety and Training, "The Nevada Mineral Industry 1997" compiled by the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, and "Major Mines of Nevada 1997" compiled by the Nevada Division of Minerals. These sources were supplemented with information from many other sources, all of which are listed in "References."
